Duqm International Airport (DQM) is the newest civil airport in Oman, opened in 2018 to serve the rapidly developing port city of Duqm on the central Arabian Sea coast. Built as part of the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) programme, it anchors a state-led diversification project that combines a deep-water port, dry dock, refinery and petrochemical complex, and a free zone aimed at making Duqm Oman's second industrial hub after Sohar. The airport features a 13,123 ft (4,000 m) runway and a 151,000 sq ft (14,000 sq m) terminal designed by the Omani government for up to 500,000 passengers a year, with expansion plans tied to the port's growth. Oman Air, SalamAir and SAUDIA operate most scheduled flights, linking Duqm to Muscat (MCT) and Salalah (SLL) together with international services to Jeddah (JED) and occasional Gulf destinations. A significant share of traffic is corporate and rotational, carrying port, refinery and logistics workers on behalf of Oman's national operators and their joint-venture partners. Within Gulf aviation rankings DQM stands out as a new-build airport engineered around industrial-zone economics rather than traditional tourism demand. Its runway length, ramp size and strategic positioning on the Indian Ocean outside the Strait of Hormuz give it both civil and military significance, and it has hosted occasional diversions and allied air-bridge operations. On Arabian Peninsula tables Duqm ranks as one of the region's largest airports by infrastructure relative to current passenger volume, reflecting long-horizon planning around Oman Vision 2040.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Duqm

Public transportation

Public transport to DQM is limited, with Mwasalat intercity coach services linking Muscat and Salalah passing through the Duqm area rather than providing dedicated airport routes. Many passengers rely on company or hotel shuttles organised by employers in the Special Economic Zone, and some holiday charters pair arriving flights with resort transfers from partner hotels.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed orange-and-white taxis serve the airport with negotiated fares into Duqm town, the port, the resort hotels along the coast and the SEZAD industrial quarters. Rates are quoted in Omani rials; credit cards are less universally accepted than in Muscat, so carrying cash in rials is advisable for first-time arrivals.

Rental cars

Major Omani and international rental firms including Budget, Europcar and Muscat-based local operators maintain counters at DQM, offering sedans, SUVs and 4x4s for exploration of the Wahiba Sands, Jebel Akhdar route back to Muscat, or the long southern drive to Salalah. A GCC-valid or international driving permit is required, and advance booking is wise given the airport's relatively small flight volumes and corporate-driven demand patterns.
